Chisinau, 19 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today pays a visit to Moldova’s northern region, Balti city, where a regional meeting with the heads of the Commissions for Emergency Situations from more districts will take place, the presidential press service has reported.

Initially, Igor Dodon held a meeting at the headquarters of the Balti city hall. Attending the event were representatives of the local public administration and lawmakers of Moldova’s parliament who represent the Balti municipality: Alexandru Usatii, Alexandr Nesterovschi and Vladimir Vitiuc.

The officials discussed diverse subjects on the current situation in the Balti city.

Taking into account the disastrous state of the roads in the Balti municipality, which is the second largest settlement of Moldova according to the number of residents, after Chisinau, the head of state came up with an initiative and appealed to the government to additionally allocate 25 million lei for the repair of roads in Balti, at the budget’s amendment; this is ten-fold more than initially provided for in the State Budget (2.1 million lei is seen now). So, this year, more than 40 million lei will be earmarked for roads’ repair from the state budget, along with money of the Road Fund. Such big investments from the state budget for roads from Balti represent something new in the last ten years.

The Moldovan president will soon initiate several important social and economic projects for the northern capital of Moldova (Balti). The head of state gave assurances that he would further pay increased attention to the Balti municipality and its residents.
