Chisinau, 20 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon says that the national economy will not record growths this year, because of the losses triggered by COVID-19; as a matter of fact, this situation is registered in a string of states hit by coronavirus. The head of state made statements to this effect at the programme, President Answers.

According to the president, in 2020, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was to record a 3.6-per cent increase. ‘’We made a scenario with 0 per cent economic growth; another one with 3 per cent and the other with 5 per cent. Depending on these scenarios, we calculated the sum of revenues the budget might lose,’’ Dodon noted.

The Moldovan president specified that, according to the worst scenario, the budget might register losses of 6-7 billion lei or 300 million euros. The head of state says that these losses will be compensated with the assistance worth 100 million dollars, provided by the International Monetary Fund. Also, Moldova is to receive a credit worth 500 million euros from Russia, of which 200 million euros is to be earmarked in March-April. At the same time, China expressed willingness to back Moldova in compensating the economic losses inflicted by the COVID-19 crisis. Igor Dodon added that the Chinese government was ready to allocate Moldova a loan worth several hundreds of millions of dollars.
