Fifteen new COVID-19 cases recorded in Moldova

Chisinau, 23 March /MOLDPRES/ - Another 15 cases of COVID-19 today were detected at the laboratory of the National Public Health Agency (ANSP). Eleven of them are with local transmission and four import ones, from citizens who have returned from the Czech Republic, France and Ukraine. Thus, there are 109 confirmed cases of new-type coronavirus in all. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu has made statements to this effect after a meeting of the single command centre for the management of the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 virus.
The minister said that four cases of COVID-19 had been already registered in the Transnistrian region; coronavirus cases are also confirmed following a pilgrimage to a monastery from Ukraine. A pregnant woman and one medical employee were infected after they had contacted with persons who went to a monastery in Ukraine.
The health minister said that ten out of the 109 patients infected were in serious condition and one sick person today was transferred to the Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital. She noted that samples had been collected also from students of the Moldovan Technical University, who were placed in quarantine, after a young student from the Balceana village, Hancesti district, had been confirmed with COVID-19, and the students’ results were negative.
Attending the meeting, Prime Minister Ion Chicu asked the people, especially elderly ones, to take care of them and of the people by their side.
The state of emergency is declared on the entire territory of Moldova on the period 17 March – 15 May 2020. During the state of emergency, the Commission for Emergency Situations issues instructions, in order to enforce more measures, which are compulsory and executory for the heads of the central and local public administration authorities, economic agents, public institutions, as well as for the citizens and other people who stay in Moldova.
