Sixteen new COVID-19 cases registered in Moldova

Chisinau, 24 March /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 104 biological samples today were processed at the laboratory of the National Public Health Agency, of which 16 ones were positive. Thirteen of them are of local transmission and three ones are of import, from citizens who returned from France and Ukraine. Thus, there are 125 confirmed cases of new-type coronavirus in all. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu made statements to this effect after a today’s meeting of the single command centre for the management of the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 virus.
The minister said that one more case of COVID-19 had been recorded in the Transnistrian region; other cases of coronavirus are confirmed also after a pilgrimage to a monastery from Ukraine.
The health minister said that 10 out of the 125 patients infected were in a serious health condition. Dumbraveanu specified that, at present, information appeared in mass media was verified, on the fact that four physicians would have been positively tested with COVID-19 at a private laboratory.
Attending the meeting, President Igor Dodon asked people, especially the elderly ones, to take care of them, as well as of those by their side and not to leave the home without urgent need. He noted that today servicemen would patrol along with policemen on Chisinau streets and starting from 25 March, they would go all over Moldova, in order to ensure the observance of the authorities’ decisions.
The state of emergency was declared in Moldova on the period 17 March – 15 May 2020, given the COVID-19 pandemic.
