Chisinau, 27 March /MOLDPRES/- The project portfolio of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the Republic of Moldova, as well as the support opportunities for the Moldovan companies affected by the pandemic crisis were the main topics discussed today by Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Sergei Railean with bank representatives.

According to the official, the biggest concern of the institution is the support of the companies to overcome "perhaps the most difficult period of their activity", protecting the health of each employee and maintaining jobs.

"The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure team is now working on a set of actions to help companies affected by the complicated situation we are going through. We understand that it is an unprecedented one, which is why, in an online regime, we talk to business associations, collect proposals and look for emergency solutions that would help them. We selected the most affected sectors, analyzed what would be the most feasible measures and appealed to the development partners for support ”, he said.

EBRD representative informed that the bank has recently approved a "Solidarity Package", worth one billion euros, aimed at companies worldwide to reduce the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, to which the Republic of Moldova can apply. "The support will be granted to the business environment directly through the national banking system", according to the EBRD.

Also, the parties discussed the current situation on strategic infrastructure projects in energy, in the process of implementation, as well as the opportunities for their expansion.

With his appointment as Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Sergei Railean will also take over the position of governor of Moldova at the EBRD.
