World Bank to support Moldovan enterprises in pandemic crisis

Chisinau, 27 March /MOLDPRES/ - Opportunities of backing the business environment in conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, through World Bank programmes, today were discussed by Economics and Infrastructure Minister Serghei Railean and World Bank Country Manager for Moldova Anna Akhalkatsi.  

According to Railean, all present efforts of the Economics Ministry are aimed at backing enterprises, through measures of attenuating the negative impact of the pandemic crisis on their activity and employees’ protection.  

In the context, the economics ministry asked for the providing of additional support on behalf of the World Bank, especially of access to financing for Moldovan enterprises, both on the crisis period and on the post-crisis one.  

”The ministry’s team worked out an inter-sectoral plan of measures for the emergency situation. The plan includes immediate-term solutions; yet, we need also expertise on the impact of the medium- and long-term actions. Therefore, we rely on the World Bank’s support in our effort to help the business from Moldova overcome the difficulties triggered by the pandemic crisis, as well as on the macro-economic measures,’’ Serghei Railean said.  

For her part, the WB representative gave assurances that her team of experts would intervene with the expertise of the anti-crisis action plan, worked out by the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, as well as with additional financing within projects underway and new ones, in order to back the business environment, both in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and on the post-crisis period.

Also, Anna Akhalkatsi noted that the board of bank had recently approved the mobilization of resources worth 150 billion dollars on the next 15 months, in order to help developing countries attenuate the impact triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic on the world economy.
