Chisinau, 29 March /MOLDPRES/ - Economics and Infrastructure Minister Serghei Railean today paid a working visit to the National Single Service for Emergency Calls 112. Railean took knowledge of the operational capacity of the service to manage a large number of demands, in the conditions of the state of emergency established in Moldova.
The officials familiarized with the fact that the service worked in alert regime for taking over all 112 calls, in connection with the infection with the new-type coronavirus. Serghei Railean appreciated the effort of the team of operators, which, in the present conditions, manages to cope with the large number of calls and limit the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, sources of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry have said.
”On this complicated period for us, when decisive fight is led for ceasing the COVID-19 epidemic, the 112 Service’s operators have an essential role. The quick taking over of the call and the transmission of the information to the emergency services, in order to intervene in real time, means the rescuing of thousands of lives. In the context of the state of emergency, the 112 Service is prepared to cope with all calls for help,’’ the economics and infrastructure minister said.
“Presently, the calls through which citizens report symptoms of flu or a possible infection with COVID-19 are sent to the ambulance service and the calls on people who do not observe the self-isolation regime established by the authorities are sent to the police services. We daily receive about 8,000 calls. Fifty per cent of all calls represent calls which are not emergencies. In a lot of cases, citizens call the single 112 emergency number, in order to learn information about coronavirus or other subjects, without having real emergencies,’’ Director of the 112 Service Liviu Oboroc said.
On 29 March, the 112 Service marks its second anniversary of operational activity. Presently, the 112 Service processes all calls which earlier have been directed separately to the police, ambulance and firemen, which facilitates the citizens’ connection with the specialized services. At the same time, the existence of a single emergency number, short time of questioning the caller, simultaneous involvement of specialized emergency services, enforcement of advanced technologies, an integrated information system, the 24-hoiur regime of work and a team of professionals give possibility of a quick intervention to save people’s lives.
