Moldovan deputy premier, Head of Council of Europe's Office tackle observance of human rights in crisis situations

Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Cristina Lesnic today had a discussion with Head of the Council of Europe’s (CoE) Office in Chisinau William Massolin on the movement of the medical staff to the Transnistrian region, as well as the observance of human rights in crisis situations, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
Cristina Lesnic thanked the Council of Europe for cooperation, for the package of confidence-building measures offered for both banks of Dniester and implemented with CoE’s support and asked the Council of Europe for consultation as to eventual mechanisms of implementing the human rights dimension in crisis situations.
The sides exchanged opinions on the management of the state of emergency on both banks of Dniester and measures enforced. Thus, Cristina Lesnic reiterated the need to further monitor the individual cases of private people and non-governmental organizations concerned about human rights, who have no access to the region.
The officials also stressed the necessity to ensure the rights to free movement for the teachers from the Latin-script schools of the Transnistrian region on the period of the state of emergency.
The official also approached the subject of a recent visit to Chisinau and Tiraspol by Council of Europe Commission for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović, as well as the recommendations in this sector.
Both sides showed interest in continuing the cooperation and CoE’s involvement in the human rights subject, from the viewpoint of the coherent management of the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
