Another 55 new cases of Coronavirus recorded in Moldova in last 24 hours

Chisinau, 31 March /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 280 biological samples today were processed at the laboratory of the National Public Health Agency, of which 55 proved to be positive.  Seven of them are of import and 48 – with local transmission. Thus, there are 353 confirmed cases of new-type coronavirus in all and four people died. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu made statements to this effect after a today’s meeting of the single command centre for the management of the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 virus.

The minister said that one of the deaths had occurred on the left bank of Dniester and a man passed away at a hospital from northern Edinet city last night. The man could not be carried to a hospital from Chisinau because of his serious state and at present, the number of people, including the medical staff with whom he had contacted, was identified.    

The official noted that most cases of local transmission had been recorded in Chisinau and on the left bank of Dniester. All people are hospitalized, while the other four patients were discharged from hospital after they had been treated of COVID-19. Thus, there are 22 persons treated.    

The health minister specified that almost 10,000 tests, bought with sources of the Global Fund, had been brought to Moldova today.

Attending the meeting, President Igor Dodon urged the Moldovan citizens from abroad to take knowledge from the decisions by the Commission for Emergency Situations about the charter flights, in order not to become victims of swindlers. Dodon also said that today he had discussed with the leadership of the biggest chains of shops, in order to see a schedule of prices from the last half a year. At the same time, the president informed that all those about 8,000 holders of licences from Moldova would be exempted from their payment. The head of state urged the citizens to observe the authorities’ recommendations, so that the country can get out of the unprecedented situation triggered by the new-type coronavirus.    

State of emergency was established all over Moldova for the period 17 March – 15 May, given the COVID-19 pandemic.
