Human rights in Transnistrian regiion in context of COVID-19 discussed with Ombudsman, goverenmental agent at European top court

Chisinau, 1 April /MOLDPRES/ - The observance of human rights in the Transnistrian region was the subject of a today’s discussion between Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Cristina Lesnic, representatives of the institution of Ombudsman and the governmental agent at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Oleg Rotari, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.   

Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Lesnic thanked for the earlier cooperation with the office of the Ombudsman and voiced confidence that the collaboration would be equally productive in the long run too. The official informed also about the measures undertaken in line with the decisions of the Commission for Emergency Situations, including in the Security Zone and about the dialogue with the Transnistrian side, in the context of the epidemiological situation in Moldova.

At the same time, the sides exchanged information on the notifications received from the Transnistrian region and priorities in the work of the office of Ombudsman. The deputy prime minister for reintegration asked for the office’s involvement in monitoring the access of the residents from the Security Zone to medical services and supply with medicines, as well as the rights of the teachers from the Latin-script schools, including the ensuring of salaries’ payment.    

For his part, Ombudsman Mihai Cotorobai asked for support to organize a meeting of the working group for human rights, which has on its agenda issues on the observance of human rights in the Transnistrian region.
