Moldovan president urges to preparing for eventual increase in number of people infected with new coronavirus

Chisinau, 1 April /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today had a meeting at the Chisinau city hall with the crisis cell at the level of the municipality, made up of government’s representatives, heads of municipal enterprises, deputy mayors.   

According to the presidential press service, the participants in the meeting discussed the situation in the city, plans on combating the infection with the new-type COVID-19, interaction with the state’s institutions.  

The head of state appreciated the fact that all municipal administrations were working, the city is cleaned, disinfected regularly, the public transport works according to the earlier established schedule and thus the Moldovan capital’s  functionality is ensured.

Igor Dodon welcomed the fact that the great majority of the Chisinau residents were aware of the risks and danger triggered by the spread of COVID-19 and prove responsibility.

At the same time, the president warned that, on the next period, the number of people infected might increase and the authorities would have to be prepared for the next phase, much more difficult, the country is to face. Presently, the Moldovan leadership analyzes possibility to open more sorting centres, of setting up laboratories in Balti, Cahul, Comrat, Edinet and the Transnistrian region, as well as increasing the number of places in hospitals.  

Igor Dodon voiced confidence that only united and with joint efforts, we would manage the cope with the challenges. The head of state considers that Chisinau is the settlement with the highest risk of infection with coronavirus, taking into account the maximal concentration of the population. ‘’About one million residents live in the capital, which accounts for one third of the country’s population. The biggest flow of citizens is recorded here and a good deal of the patients infected from Moldova are carried and treated here too,’’ the president added.
