Moldova-United Nations cooperation in context of COVID-19 discussed at Foreign Affairs Ministry

Chisinau, 2 April /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s cooperation with the United Nations Organization, in efforts to cease the extension and, respectively, to combat COVID-19 nationally has been discussed at a meeting between Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Oleg Tulea and UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova Simon Springett. Attending the meeting was also the country representatives of the World Health Organization, Igor Pokanevych, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.
The sides reviewed the support provided by the UN country team for the preparation and endowment of the national medical system with the needed equipment for fighting the coronavirus, working out information materials and, respectively, the technical assistance provided for the appropriate training of the medical staff.
The officials also tackled Moldova’s assistance needs MAEIE’s efforts to mobilize the necessary support in the fight against the pandemic.
Minister Oleg Tulea thanked for the support provided and encouraged the further backing of the Moldovan government’s efforts to combat COVID-19.
Simon Springett expressed the United Nations’ openness to provide support and expertise necessary in the fight against the coronavirus. The sides agreed on the further coordination of the actions, in order to mobilize the needed assistance to this end.
