Chisinau, 2 April /MOLDPRES/ - Volunteer specialists warn about the exhausting of the stocks of raw material PET-G needed for manufacturing visors, which are donated to medical institutions from Moldova in the fight against COVID-19, according to the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS).
During five days, the community of engineers of the portal www.viziere.md has produced 8,500 protection screens, donated to the medical employees involved in the treatment of people confirmed or suspected of COVID-19, as well as border policemen, who are in the first line in the fight against the pandemic. ‘’The volunteers involved in the production of visors give alarm and warn about the exhausting of the stock of raw material PET-G, necessary to supply the country’s needs of about 50,000 visors,’’ MSMPS said.
In the context of the present crisis triggered by the COVID-19 virus, the Association of Creative Industries from Moldova and FabLab, along with the community of engineers specialized in 3D printing, joined their efforts to produce protection screens for the medical staff and those who are in the first line in the fight against the pandemic. After 8,500 visors have been donated to 78 medical institutions from 34 settlements of Moldova, the volunteers involved in the production of visors demand donations of raw material PET-G or resources for the purchasing or import of raw material.
The number of visors necessary for Moldova is estimated at 50,000 units, while the stock of raw material PET-G available in Moldova allows producing only 15,000 additional units. This product has earlier been imported from the neighbour countries, Romania and Ukraine; yet, in the context of the present crisis, these states are expected to use the raw material for their domestic needs. In the context, Moldova might import PET-G raw materials from such countries as Italy, Turkey or China.
On 26 March, the Association of Creative Companies from Moldova joined the initiative of a group of activists from Romania (vizier.ro) to produce visors and donate them to the medical system and police. The project is implemented in Moldova through the online platform www.viziere.md – an initiative based on volunteering. All information on its work, as well as the possibilities of donation can be learned on the website www.viziere.md.
