Forced vacation of public sector employees extended in Moldova till 17 April

Chisinau, 6 April /MOLDPRES/ - The public sector employees will have days off on the period 7-17 April, which will be remunerated under a decision by Moldova’s Commission for Emergency Situations, which held a meeting today.
„All public sector structures will be in forced vacation, except for those from the medical system, public health, defence, maintaining public order and security,’’ the head of the Commission, Prime Minister Ion Chicu said at the end of the meeting.
According to the PM, these days will be recovered under the legislation, once the state of emergency ends. ‘’We might return to the six-day working week for a while, just as it was once. This is a situation when we should prove understanding,’’ Ion Chicu said.
At the same time, the official specified that the heads of the public sector subdivisions had right to summon at work a limited number of employees, needed to ensure and maintain the working process, which is urgently necessary. Also, the next days are working days for the education institutions of all levels, public and private ones, which will hold online classes starting from today, as well as for the employees organized to work at distance.
Chicu also said that these days off did not represent a vacation itself, but a measure necessary for preventing and combating the spread of the new-type coronavirus –COVID-19. ‘’The decision was taken, while taking into account the recommendations by representatives of the World Health Organization, specialists epidemiologists, who were invited to the Commission’s meeting,’’ the prime minister stressed.
The latest official data shows that 864 confirmed cases of new-type coronavirus have been registered in Moldova. On the period 17 March – 15 May, state of emergency is declared all over Moldova, given the COVID-19 pandemic. More settlements from the districts of Stefan Voda, Hancesti and Soroca were placed in quarantine regime; the entries and exits from these settlements are blocked.
