Moldova faces deficit of 5,000 medical assistants

Chisinau, 7 April /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova faces a deficit of 5,000 medical assistants and 17 per cent of the medical assistants and midwives working in the system are of retirement age. The Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry today unveiled data to this effect, in the context of marking the World Health Day.
According to the ministry, this year, the subject of the campaign on the promotion of the World Health Day, marked on 7 April, is focused on backing the medical assistants and midwives, showing their essential role in the providing of medical care all over the world.
As many as 23,000 medical assistants work in Moldova; most of them are involved in the treatment of people sick with COVID-19.
Statistics data shows that there is a deficit of almost 18 million employees in the health care sector worldwide, in order to reach the indexes of universal coverage with healthcare services till 2030. About a half of this insufficiency represent medical assistants and midwives.
