Chisinau, 21 April /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Cristina Lesnic on 20 April visited the Gura Bacului settlement, situated on the Dniester bank in the Security Zone. Accompanied by EU’s high-level adviser, Kalman Miszei, Cristina Lesnic inspected the conditions of work of the control posts of the joint peacekeeping forces and discussed the current situation, including in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures undertaken for the observance of the epidemiological norms, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
In Gura Bacului, Lesnic met the settlement’s mayor, Lilia Brehova, and familiarized with the situation in the village, especially of farmers, negative effects on the economic activities, including for the residents of the Bacioc village, as a result of the measures of restricting the movement for the population from the Transnistrian region.
The movement between the two settlements was resumed in 2018, 26 years after the moment when the bridge was damaged during the 1992 Transnistria War and the bridge is to be repaired with the EU’s support. The itinerary is part of the international road M5, which connects Chisinau to Odessa and the European corridor No 9, which connects the Balkans to Odessa, Kiev and other important destinations.
