IMF to provide Moldova with loan worth about 234 million dollars

Chisinau, 23 April /MOLDPRES/ - The IMF will provide Moldova with a loan worth about 234 million dollars. The parliament today approved the two agreements of Moldova’s government with the International Monetary Fund on an emergency loan.

According to PM Ion Chicu, who presented the agreements in the parliament’s plenum, the loan has two components, amounting to about 234 million dollars. The money will be used for financing the state budget deficit.

Through the Rapid Finance Instrument, Moldova will attract a loan worth 156 million dollars. The interest is 1.5 per cent, with a grace period of 3 years and 3 months and a repayment period of 1 year and 9 months. The loan’s maturity is 5 years. Additionally, Moldova will pay a one-off commission of 0.5 per cent.

Through the Rapid Credit Facility, Moldova will access an IMF loan worth 78 million dollars. The interest is zero per cent, with a grace period of 5 years and 6 months. The loan’s maturity is of ten years.

The two laws were adopted in final reading with 85 votes and will enter into force on the date of publication in Moldova’s Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).
