Moldovan foreign affairs minister, Swiss counterpart discuss joint actions to combat COVID-19 pandemic

Chisinau, 23 April /MOLDPRES/ - The medium- and long-term consequences of the epidemiological crisis and the ways of boosting the bilateral relations were discussed at a today’s phone conversation between Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Oleg Tulea and his Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.   

The Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Swiss Confederation offered congratulations to Minister Oleg Tulea on his swearing in office. The ministry reiterated the Swiss side’s willingness to continue the dynamic development of the Moldovan-Swiss bilateral relations in the political and diplomatic sectors, fields of commerce, economy and culture.   

Referring to the present situation in both countries, triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, the officials stressed the importance of the international cooperation in managing the crisis, including as to the measures for diminishing the negative consequences on the economy. 

Minister Oleg Tulea thanked the government of Switzerland for the valuable and prompt assistance provided to supply Moldova’s medical institutions with protection equipment, to back the regional health centres and local authorities. At the same time, Oleg Tulea highly appreciated the work of the Chisinau-based Swiss Cooperation Office.     

In the context of marking the 20th anniversary of the starting of Switzerland’s cooperation development in Moldova, Minister Ignazio Cassis noted that Moldova would further benefit from the support of the Swiss government in the key sectors for development and the projects implemented would regard the well-being of citizens.
