Moldovan, Lithuanian presidents have online discussion

Chisinau, 24 April /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today had an online discussion with President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda, the presidential press service has reported.
During the discussion, Igor Dodon appreciated the bilateral relations and the active political dialogue between the two countries. At the same time, the Moldovan president highlighted the existence of a potential which has not been turned to account at its true value and spoke out for extending and deepening the partnership in all sectors of common interest.
The officials exchanged opinions on the pandemic situation in the two countries and in the world, as well as the actions undertaken by the authorities to combat the pandemic. The head of state conveyed sincere thanks to Lithuania for the assistance and support provided in the process of repatriation of Moldovan citizens on the quarantine period, as well as for the Lithuanian government’s decision to allocate a financial assistance for the purchasing of needed consumables/medical equipment in the process of combating the new-type virus. In this respect, the head of state stressed that the mutual assistance and support between the states would significantly contribute to the overcoming of this pandemic.
In another context, Igor Dodon praised the active position and the constant support on behalf of Lithuania for boosting the format of the Eastern Partnership. In the context, the sides exchanged opinion on the way of preparing for the forthcoming Summit of the Eastern Partnership. At the same time, the head of state underlined the need for both the Eastern Partnership states and the EU countries join efforts to efficiently deepen the dialogue and fully carry out the necessary reforms. The Moldovan president voiced hope that Vilnius would further maintain a pro-active position in relation with Moldova in the Eastern Partnership arrangement.
In the context, the head of state reiterated the Moldovan leadership’s attachment to promoting a balanced foreign policy, which implies the development of efficient cooperation relations both with the states from the West and the East, implementation of the Association Agreement with EU and other international agreements for which Moldova had taken commitments, as well as the carrying out the reforms in strict accordance with the European standards.
