Two Moldovan cities receive assistance on behalf of EU to overcome pandemic

Chisinau, 24 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Cahul and Ungheni municipalities today received consignments with protection equipment, other products needed in the measures for preventing and combating the new-type coronavirus COPVID-19. The donation was made within a project backed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).   

„We are in a complicated situation through which all the world is going. We are all in Europe and we will together get out of this difficulty. The pandemic made more of our projects be re-oriented, so that we can help the partners in the crisis state,’’ EU Ambassador to Moldova peter Michalko said at the ceremony on the delivery of the consignment.   

According to the UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Dima Al-Khatib, all this assistance is meant for those who are in the first line in the fight against COVID-19. ‘’All those who ensure the life’s continuity and the overcoming of the pandemic in the first line will benefit from protection material,’’ Dima Al-Khatib said.    

The aid for the Ungheni and Cahul municipalities is provided within the second initiative of the programme, EU4Moldova: Key Regions. EU invests 22.8 million euros out of a budget of 23.3 million euros for stimulating the intelligent, inclusive and sustainable economic development in the Cahul and Ungheni regions.    

The EU4Ungheni initiative is carried out on the period 2019-2025 and is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), with the strategic guidance of the European Union Delegation in Moldova.
