Residents from both banks of Dniester to benefit from protection equipment on behalf of EU

Chisinau, 24 April /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Lesnic today participated in a ceremony on the delivery of a consignment of protection equipment and consumables for the residents from both banks of Dniester, donated by the European Union through the Confidence Building Measures Programme, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
The official thanked the development partners for the assistance provided, which contributes to the improvement of the physicians’ working conditions and to establishing to an efficient dialogue.
„The government is concerned about the health of the residents from both banks of Dniester. On short term, our orientation is to make sure that the health system can do its job in safety and on medium and long term - to avoid the negative effects on the economy. We are grateful to the development partners, EU Delegation and the UN Development Programme, for the assistance provided promptly and flexibly, as well as for the coordination of the response of limiting the pandemic and reducing the its negative effects,’’ Cristina Lesnic said.
The consignment of equipment provided contains 400 masks, 10,000 pairs of bags for footwear, 400 protection uniforms, 30 thermometres for distance monitoring the body temperature, two spirometers, two portable electrocardiographs, two sterilizers, an oxygen concentrator and one portable pulse oxymeter for measuring the pulse and the oxygen saturation, as well as disinfectant, purchased from European funds, and is offered to medical centres from both banks of Dniester. The assistance was provided within the Confidence Building Measures Programme.
„The European Union backs Moldova in the fight with the new coronavirus. The personal protection equipment, as well as the set of medical equipment provided by us is meant to help the first-line people, who endanger their personal safety to save lives during the pandemic. This is a model of local, regional and global solidarity. Or, this pandemic cannot be stopped through the effort of a single country. This aid is offered additionally to the assistance which the European Union will provide to the Eastern Partnership member states, recently announced. We are stronger together,’’ European Union’s Ambassador to Moldova peter Michalko said.
The protection equipment will help reduce the risk of infection, daily faced by the people from the first line of counteracting the COVID-19: medical staff, local public authorities. Local volunteers, as well as people from the vulnerable groups will benefit from assistance too.
