Romania to provide Moldova with support package to combat COVID-19 pandemic

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ - Romania will provide Moldova with a support package, in the context of efforts of combating the COVID-19 pandemic, as expression of the commitment to act consistently for the direct benefit of Moldova’s citizens. The government of Romania issued a statement to this effect today.
According to the quoted source, a team of physicians and medical assistants from Romania will join, on volunteering basis, their colleagues from Moldova this week and are to work for a while by their side in Moldovan hospitals involved in combating the pandemic.
At the same time, the Romanian government on the next period will make a string of donations for the benefit of Moldova’s citizens. The donations consist of protection equipment and other medical materials necessary in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this respect, at a meeting due on 30 April, the Bucharest cabinet will allocate to the Health Ministry the sums needed to make the aforementioned donations.
Besides, Romania backed the support packages meant for the Eastern Partnership states, including Moldova, concerning the management of the pandemic, recently adopted by the European Union.
“By all these measures, Romania pursues, as a priority, providing direct support to Moldova’s citizens, in the spirit of the special relation, based on the community of language, history and culture and established on the cooperation within the strategic partnership for Moldova’s European integration, the tenth anniversary of the signing of which is marked on 27 April 2020. At this anniversary moment, of marking the tenth anniversary of the Strategic Partnership, Romania reiterates its commitment to continue supporting the achievement of the fundamental goal represented by Moldova’s European integration – the only able to ensure the economic and social development of Moldova, for the citizens’ direct benefit. At the same time, Romania will continue following, as a priority, the interests of Moldova’s citizens,’’ the statement reads.
