Chisinau, 28 April /MOLDPRES/ - Chisinau has taken note of the decision set forth by the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for Transnistrian Conflict Settlement on Chisinau’s initiative to urgently summon a meeting in the 5+2 Format, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
We regret that Chisinau’s motivated and reasoned demand as to the subjects of major and vital importance, such as the life and health of citizens, as well as the residents’ access to medical assistance, in the context of the illegal obstacles to the free movement, have not been treated quote attentively, in the context of the emergency situation triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On 10 April 2020, the political representative in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process on behalf of Chisinau, Cristina Lesnic, demanded urgent summoning of a meeting in the 5+2 format, in order to discuss measures and identify quick solutions to intervene in the COVID-19 in the Transnistrian region.
In the context of the information available, Chisinau reiterates and insists on the need to urgently hold a meeting of the 5+2 format and asks the mediators and observers to revise their position in this respect.
The human rights are infringed through the unilateral actions of the Transnistrian side, especially the right to life and health, the right of the people with health insurances to consult the physician, right to choose the public or private medical institution, free movement, as well as the access to compensated medicines and vital needs. In the current conditions, the sustainability of the results achieved within the Berlin Plus Package, among which also the ensuring of the free movement of the residents from the two banks of Dniester and of the teachers from the Latin-script schools of the region amplify new realities.
The candendar of the future actions will highlight the emergency support for the Moldovan citizens from both banks of Dniester, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and will outline the efficiency of the long-term measures, adopted in the 5+2 format, including also the future priorities in this format.
Chisinau considers that the people’s health is outside the political process and in this context, it will use including instruments at its disposal to ensure the settlement of the urgent problems of Moldova’s citizens.
Thus, today, Chisinau will submit a demarche to the representation of the World Health Organization (WHO), thereby asking WHO to pay a strictly technical visit to the Transnistrian region, which is component part of Moldova, in order to collect facts on the spot about the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
We reiterate that the self-isolation of the Transnistrian region, under the pretext of the pandemic, the hindrance of the free movement and of the access to the emergency medical assistance, as well as the distorting of the information on the real situation as to the Moldovan citizens from the Transnistrian region represent serious infringements of the human rights.
