Chisinau, 14 May /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 1,103 biological samples have been processed in Moldova in the last 24 hours, of which 147 ones proved to be positive. Thus, there are 5,553 confirmed cases of new-type coronavirus in all, of which 3,131 ones are active. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu made statements to this effect today.

According to Dumbraveanu, all cases are with local transmission. Most infection cases were registered in Chisinau – 41, Soroca – 25, Ceadar-Lunga – 11, left bank of Dniester – 9, Cahul – 8, Balti – 7. ‘’Today, we have another 52 treated people, and their overall number has reached 2,228. Also, 21 patients are subjected to mechanical ventilation and 269 are in serious condition. In the last 24 hours, nine people have died of COVID-19 and the total number being 194,’’ Dumbraveanu noted.

A representative of the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS), Svetlana Lupu, attended the news briefing. Lupu informed about the situation of the hotbeds from Soroca and Ceadar-Lunga. ‘’Collected samples are processed at the temporary placement centre for people with mental disabilities from Badiceni, Soroca district, with 65 cases confirmed here at present. The team of the centre was consolidated medically and the patients were sent, if needed, to the hospitals from Balti and the district centre. As to the Ceadar-Lunga hospital, some of the sections here, which went through the necessary disinfection procedures, with the participation of reserve teams, will resume working. Another 20 patients continuing the treatment are in the therapy section,’’ Lupu said.

The period when emergency state was established expires on 15 May and the authorities informed that this period would not be extended. Nevertheless, because of the high risk of infection with the new-type of coronavirus, the protection rules remain in force and the restrictions are to be imposed or relaxed in continuation not by the Commission for Emergency Situations, but by the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission.

„As a result of the epidemiological situation and the need to protect the lives and health of the people, a decision was taken to establish emergency state in the public health sector. Today, the National Public Health Agency addressed, under the legislation, to the head of the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission, who is Moldova’s prime minister, with a request to take a decision to this end,’’ the health minister said.

According to the official, this emergency state further triggers measures of prevention and control of the spread of the COVID-19 infection, which implies not a relaxation, but an adaptation of the restrictive measures, made in strict accordance with the law. ‘’The danger of the coronavirus infection is still big; the need to observe the physicians’ and authorities’ instructions is maintained and their duration will depend on the epidemiological evolution in Moldova; these measures will be periodically revised with decisions, as a case maybe, of relaxation or toughening,’’ Viorica Dumbraveanu added.
