Moldovan PM participates in Extraordinary Virtual Meeting of Heads of Government of Central European Initiative

Chisinau, 15 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today participated in the Extraordinary Virtual Meeting of the Heads of Government of Central European Initiative (CEI) for the management of the emergency state triggered by the COVID-19 epidemic, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Besides governments’ representatives, attending the event were European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Várhelyi, World Health Organization’s Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge and President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Suma Chakrabarti.
The COVID-19 epidemic was described as an unprecedented challenge for the entire world, which triggers economic, social and humanitarian crisis. The participants in the meeting confirmed the need to undertake urgent, resolute and comprehensive measures, in order to manage to combat the epidemic.
The participants in the event said that the most efficient approaches in combating the epidemic were cooperation, mutual trust and solidarity. They welcomed the mobilization and re-allocation of seven billion euros through diverse EU instruments to support the countries from the Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership states, in order to manage the urgent needs in the health and humanitarian assistance sectors, to attenuate the economic effects of the epidemic.
