Moldovan premier says medical system much better prepared for second wave of COVID-19

Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/ - The medical system presently managers better the epidemiological situation and we no longer have the risk from early last April and is much better prepared for the second wave of COVID-19. Prime Minister Ion Chicu made statements to this effect at a news briefing today.
The prime minister confirmed the possibility of the ‘’second wave’’ in the pandemic evolution triggered by COVID-19. ‘’There is a warning of the World Health Organization; yet, also following a recent summit of the heads of government from more European countries, I discussed with counterparts and it is sure that in other states they speak about this as about a fulfilled fact,’’ Chicu noted.
„The second wave is to start by the winter, unfortunately, as the situation is thus more difficult. Now, we got out of winter, while at that time, we are to enter the winter, when we also have the combination of seasonal flu, other diseases, which worsen the situation even more,’’ the prime minister said. He specified that the authorities were anticipating the preparations for this situation.
According to the official, Moldova will be more prepared in terms of medicines, protection equipment. ‘’When I came to parliament with the budget’s rectification in last April, we envisaged an additional fund of 300 million lei, which, under cabinet decision, can be directed to buy the needed things in worsened pandemic situation,’’ Chicu said.
The PM also said that the medical system presently had a sufficient number of tests. ‘’We have at least 80,000 tests in stock; we have enough equipment, for which I want to thank all countries and institutions which helped us; or if necessary, we will be able to purchase also from the domestic market, as more enterprises have adapted their production lines to this end,’’ Chicu specified.
„All measures are undertaken, so that, in next autumn, in the eventuality of the second COVID-19 wave, the country is prepared,’’ the PM added.
