World Family Doctor Day marked in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/ - About 1,591 family doctors are involved in the fight against COVID-19 in Moldova. Data to this effect was unveiled by the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS), in the context of marking the World Family Doctors Day.       

According to Health Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu, the family doctor is everybody’s friend, starting the birth till the end of life. ‘’In these moments, family doctors are in the first line of the fight with the COVID-19 infection, proving courage and resistance, as people’s lives are priority. I express gratitude to those 1,591 family physicians and 3,932 assistance of family doctors from Moldova, for every commitment proved and for the work they carry out day by day,’’ the minister said.   

This year, the topic of World Family Doctors Day is, Family Doctors, in first line. The subject is relevant for all countries of the world and for Moldova as well.      

The family physicians from Moldova are actively involved in the monitoring of the people suspected and the treatment of patients with easy forms of COVID-19, starting from 10 April, when the treatment at home was launched. In the context, 1,141 people tested positive for coronavirus were included in treatment at home, under the monitoring of the family physician. A number of 477 people ended their treatment healed and 526 are further in active treatment at home, under family doctor’s supervision.     

According to MSMPS data, 1,591 family doctors and 3,932 assistants of family doctors work in Moldova at 35 regional health centres, five Territorial Medical Associations, 2 Centres of Family Physicians and 264 rural health centres. At the same time, 25 providers of medical services independently carry out their profession of family physician and 12 providers are private ones.
