As many as 202 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Moldova in last 24 hours

Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 1,288 biological samples have been processed in Moldova in the last 24 hours, of which 202 ones proved to be positive. Thus, there are 6,340 confirmed cases of new-type coronavirus in all, of which 3,611 are active. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister made statements to this effect today.   

According to Dumbraveanu, all cases are with local transmission. Most infection cases were registered in Chisinau – 77, Soroca – 22, Balti – 17, left bank of Dniester – 15, Straseni -13, Orhei – 5. ‘’Today, we have 83 people healed, with their total number standing at 2,508. Also, 20 patients are subjected to mechanical ventilation and 251 are in serious condition. Four deaths triggered by COVID-19 have been registered in the last 24 hours, with 221 dead people in all,’’ Dumbraveanu noted.

The health minister also said that another 36 medical system employees had been detected positive for COVID-19, of whom nine physicians and 21 medical assistants. The overall number of health system employees infected with the new-type of coronavirus is 1,385.

In the end of the news briefing, the minister urged the residents to further observe all cautious measures and specialists’ recommendations, as family micro-hotbeds of infection with the new coronavirus are registered in Moldova. Even if the emergency state ended on 15 May, under the decision by the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission, emergency state in public health sector was declared in Moldova till 30 June 2020.
