Moldovan president gives speech at online meeting of Supreme Eurasian Economic Council

Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today gave a speech at an enlarged online meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, the presidential press service has reported. 

Igor Dodon said that, two years ago, at a meeting of Supreme Eurasian Economic Council held in Sochi, due to unanimous support of the Eurasian Economic Union’s (EEU) countries, Moldova had been the first country to get the status of observer under this organization.   

The head of state reiterated Moldova’s intention to deepen the interaction with the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as to extent the cooperation agenda. The Moldovan president noted that special interest is presented by the cooperation projects in the sector of the agro-industrial complex, ensuring the food security of EEU countries.   

Igor Dodon highly appreciated the negotiations, launched in 2020, on Moldova joining the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB). The participants in the talks nominated potential sectors of cooperation: agro-industrial complex, roads’ infrastructure, energy sector, promoting mutual trade.  

The head of state reiterated Moldova’s tendency to successfully end the negotiations with EDB and launch investment projects.

In the end of his speech, the Moldovan president thanked the partners, especially Russian President Vladimir Putin, for the assistance provided to Moldova in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus. Igor Dodon voiced confidence that the global crisis triggered by the pandemic could be overcome together and the people would return to the normal pace of mutually advantageous cooperation.
