Moldovan PM meets U.S. envoy

Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/- Today Prime Minister Ion Chicu had a meeting with Dereck J. Hogan, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova. An exchange of views was held on developments in the epidemiological situation and the effects of restrictions on the intensity of economic activities, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Ion Chicu thanked the USA for assistance to Moldova in implementing reforms in the economy and justice, supporting the transition to high-value agriculture by rehabilitating roads and irrigation systems and support in other areas. The forecasts of the Moldovan economic development for 2020 and solutions to revive some sectors of the economy were discussed.

The premier spoke about the government's intention to invest in the construction and rehabilitation of road infrastructure using public resources and funds provided by development partners.  Also, he noted the government's intention to issue Eurobond to determine the country's industrialization, including Moldova in regional and global economic flows and job creation.

Note: 382 enterprises with American capital operate in Moldova, the invested capital is 31.4 million dollars (2018). The US is 6th among foreign investors. Moldova’s foreign trade with the USA in 2018 amounted to 98.025 million dollars, up by 10.07 per cent compared to 2017. According to the volume of trade, the USA is ranked 18th worldwide among partner countries with which Moldova has trade relations, with a share of 1.15% in the total trade of Moldova. Moldovan exports amounted to 21.77 million dollars (+ 15.62% compared to 2017), while goods imported from the USA amounted to 76.25 million dollars (+ 8.59% compared to 2017).
