Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/- In ten localities in the country, within a European project, modern water pumping equipment has been installed, which is 30 percent more energy efficient and improves the people’ access to safe sources of drinking water. The beneficiaries are the inhabitants of Rezina, Drochia, Fălești, Râșcani, Hâncești, Dondușeni, Ceadâr-Lunga, Vulcănești, Anenii Noi, as well as Floreni village, Anenii Noi district.
In all, 26 submersible pumps and two pressure lifting stations were installed. The equipment was purchased under the project Strengthening the institutional framework in the water supply and sanitation in Moldova, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Austrian Agency for Cooperation and Development.
The project aims at increasing the energy efficiency of water and sewerage operators, as the high share of electricity consumption in the total costs and expenses necessary for the technological process influences the tariff increase, thus becoming a barrier in ensuring free and equitable access to safe sources of water for people.
The installation works of the pumps started in early May, simultaneously with the training of the staff of the water supply and sewerage service in terms of operation, maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment. Thus, each specialist has a certificate confirming their ability to operate and maintain the installed equipment.
