Loan provided by Council of Europe Development Bank to Moldova for building penitentiary to be increased

Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/ - The loan provided by the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) to Moldova for the construction of a penitentiary in the country will be increased by ten million euros and will amount to 49 million euros. The parliament today ratified the Amendment No 1 to the framework agreement on loan between Moldova and CEB for carrying out the project on the construction of the penitentiary in Chisinau.
The new penitentiary institution will have a sufficient capacity to ensure the observance of the international standards in the detention sector.
As much as 44.6 hectares, regarded as ground with special purpose, placed nearby the Bubuieci settlement, Chisinau municipality, was transmitted to the Justice Ministry for the construction of the penitentiary.
The framework agreement on loan between Moldova and CEB for the carrying out of the project on building the Chisinau-based penitentiary was ratified in December 2013.
According to the decision-makers in charge of the project’s implementation, the construction of the penitentiary will end about in 2022.
