Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline to be completed by 1 August 2020

Chisinau, 22 May /MOLDPRES/- The Ungheni-Chisinau gas highway will be completed by 1 August 2020. Transgaz Director-General Ion Sterian made the statement at Thursday's meeting with Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Sergiu Railean, during which they discussed the implementation process, works due to be done to complete the investments of Moldova and Romania.

"By 1 August 2020, we are ready to put the Ungheni-Chisinau pipeline into operation. At this stage, 1.5 million m3 of gas per day will be able to be delivered through the gas pipeline, and by 1 December we will ensure the transportation of 2-3 million m3 of gas per day. After the installation of the compression and regulation station in Gherăești, by 1 January 2021, we will be able to transport 4 million m3 of gas per day in the Republic of Moldova ”, he said.

According to Ion Sterian, from the beginning of 2019 until now, works have been carried out on all seven lots related to construction, the linear pipeline being already built about 90%.In the following period, two compression and regulation stations will be modernized in Siliștea and Onești localities, on the Romanian side, and two gas pressure measurement and regulation stations will be installed in Ghidighici and Tohatin.

Railean appreciated the works on the gas pipeline, emphasizing the importance of this strategic project for national energy security.

"The launch of this strategic project is expected by the Republic of Moldova. It is important to successfully complete the construction of the pipeline in the proposed terms, despite all the challenges we face along the way. I assure you we will come with all necessary support for developing new projects on gas distribution ", he said.

In another context, the Romanian side noted intention to contribute to the development of the national gas distribution system, including through the construction of a gas compression station in Moldova.
