Arrest warrant issued on former Democratic leader

Chisinau, 22 May /MOLDPRES/- Following a request of the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), the Chisinau Court today issued an arrest warrant for 30 days on former PDM leader Vladimir Plahotniuc, in his absence.

According to the PCCOCS, his arrest warrant followed the indictment filed on 18 May 2020. Plahotniuc did not appear at the prosecutors' request after being summoned to his home, as he was abroad.

Subsequently, if the arrest warrant is appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeal, and application of this preventive measure is maintained by judges, the need to announce him in international search will be considered.

The former Democratic leader is being investigated on three counts: fraud, money laundering and organization and management of criminal group. Under the law, two of these crimes are part of the category of particularly serious ones, for which the accused risks imprisonment for up to 15 years.
