Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/ - The cost of the presidential elections might increase, if the electoral process is held during a COVID-19 pandemic situation.
The Centre for Continuous Electoral Training (CICDE) today unveiled a policy-brief titled, Organization of elections during COVID-19 pandemic, in which the Centre made public recommendations and risks as to the organization of electoral processes during a coronavirus pandemic.
Electoral experts say that, under the legislation, electoral processes are postponed during the declaring of emergency situation. ‘’Moldova’s parliament is the one to decide if emergency state will be established or not on 1 November – the date of presidential polls. This fact does not hinder the estimation and planning of risks, if the electoral process is carried out in a situation of alert in the health sector,’’ the CICDE director, Doina Bordeianu, said.
“The expenses for the organization of electoral processes during an alert situation will increase due to the measures needed to prevent the infection risk,’’ an electoral expert, Victor Pruteanu, said.
