Eight groups of producers to benefit from grants worth 2.6 million dollars in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/ - Eight groups of producers from Moldova will benefit from grants worth over 2.6 million dollars, as a result of the last appeal announced within the grants programme, Facilitation of access to sales markets, implemented by the Moldova Agricultural Competitiveness Project (MAC-P), with the World Bank’s support. 

Four of the groups of producers selected are specialized in the production of fruits, and are to invest the means got in the construction of modern refrigerated warehouses. Another two cooperatives are producers of nuts – walnuts, peanuts and almonds, which are set to modernize the production process through purchasing of equipment for processing.  

At the same time, decision-makers approved for financing the first two apicultural cooperatives – they asked for financial support for the construction of complexes for the collection, processing, packing and depositing natural honey. ‘’The maximal value of a grant is 350,000 dollars, for which the groups of producers must provide co-financing of at least 50 per cent of the value of the eligible investment,’’ said sources of the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry.   

Thirty nine groups of producers were financed at the previous rounds of the programme, which got grant resources worth 10.9 million dollars. Most groups invested in the development of the refrigerating infrastructure. Additionally, investments were made in drying rooms with lines for processing plums, sorting lines, refrigerated transport units and specialized equipment for the processing of peanuts and almonds, line for manufacturing of cardboard boxes.  

The Moldova Agricultural Competitiveness Project was extended till 30 June 2021. The groups of producers will also have possibility to get a grant worth up to 350,000 dollars for developing the business.
