Moldovan PM participates in ordinary meeting of Council of Heads of Government of Commonwealth of Independent States

Chisinau, 29 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today participated in an ordinary meeting of the Council of the Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member countries. The meeting was held online. The participants in the event exchanged information and opinions on the evolution of the epidemiological situation and the effects of the restrictions imposed for preventing the spread of the infection on the economic processes, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
„Amid the unprecedented crisis triggered by the coronavirus epidemic, the effects of which will hit all life dimensions of the society, we face joint challenges and the process of identifying response solutions will be more efficient, if there is direct communication and mutual agreement,’’ the PM said.
Ion Chicu noted that there were opportunities to boost and diversify the commercial and economic cooperation between the CIS member states, by enforcing, to a greater extent, the Free Trade Agreement within the CIS. The prime minister highlighted the Moldovan cabinet’s intentions to invest in the rehabilitation of the national roads’ infrastructure and modernization of the energy infrastructure objects, in order to create maximally attractive conditions for investors and industrialize the country’s economy.
Moldova has signed free trade agreements with 43 countries: European Union, Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA), GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development, CIS and Turkey, which serve as way of access to a market of about 880 million consumers.
