Chisinau, 29 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today had a meeting with the members of the initiative group for constitutional reform. The group is made up of former presidents of the Constitutional Court (CCM), well-known jurists and scientists in the law sector. The meeting was held following an appeal they have earlier published, which contained an urge to discuss the complicated situation which emerged as to the Constitutional Court, the presidential press service has said.

Most guests agreed with the need to start a wider dialogue on the subject of constitutional reform, which can advance on one of two main directions. Either it is about the amendment legislative acts on constitutional jurisdiction, which were interpreted contradictorily in favour of political interests or by making amendments to the country’s Fundamental Law.

The second way implies a systemic approach; therefore, it provides for a longer period of implementation and is more reliable. At the same time, it needs a much larger and more difficult volume of work and can be carried out through parliament’s will or by constitutional referendum.

The sides reached preliminary conclusion that diverse political forces and public organizations can participate in the discussions; yet, only professional jurists, first of all, constitutionalists, should participate directly in the reformation process and not political who pursue certain interests.

The interlocutors agreed to continue the dialogue, in order to identify a more suitable formula for solving the problem.
