Chisinau, 18 June /MOLDPRES/ - Defence Minister Alexandru Pinzari will not come to parliament today, as he is at a military unit from Balti, where over 20 soldiers had positive tests for COVID-19.

In a video posted on his official page, the minister said that he would subsequently come to parliament to unveil information about the soldiers who had gone to Russia.

„Today, I was invited by a group of MPs to parliament. When I learned about this, I was on the way to a military unit from Balti, as we have over 20 cases of COVID-19 registered here. Also today morning, I was at the Military Hospital of the Defence Ministry, where servicemen infected with COVID-19 are put. I came to Balti, in order to learn why these infections had occurred,’’ Pinzari noted.

The official also said that those 75 military from Moldova were healthy and had been tested for coronavirus. ‘’I daily speak to their chief; all are tested and their body temperature is checked,’’ Pinzari added.

In a press release, the Defence Ministry informed that 75 servicemen of the Honorary Guard’s Company, who had been in quarantine during two weeks ahead of the departure date, went to the Moscow parade. On 17 June, the Moldovan military detached to Moscow started trainings for the parade due on 24 June; all of them are healthy, which was confirmed by the testings for the virus made both in Moldova and in Russia.

“After each rehearsal, the servicemen are compulsorily tested for COVID-19, in order to prevent eventual infections or the spread of the virus among the participants. In Russia, the military were placed in conditions of drastic isolation and do not come in touch with other people outside the accommodation place and 24 hours the contingent is accompanied by a physician who monitors the health condition of each serviceman,’’ the communiqué reads.

Lawmaker Oazu Nantoi asked for the hearing of the defence minister in parliament. The legislative body’s plenum backed the proposal.
