Chisinau, 19 June /MOLDPRES/- At the 18 June meeting of the Joint Control Commission, the Moldovan delegation proposed several current issues on the agenda to unblock the peacekeeping mechanisms and restore effective control over the Security Zone, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.

The document signed in December 2004 on the principles of cooperation between the OSCE Mission to Moldova and the Joint Control Commission was approached, and one of those principles sees that representatives of the Mission have to collect and present information on the Security Zone, including on the military situation, to analyze the causes and potential political consequences of the incidents and to provide recommendations to prevent further violations.

The Moldovan delegation reiterated proposal to implement the mechanism, which will allow to highlight any deviations from the Security Zone regime. In the same context, as a solution to unblock the activity of military observers, it was proposed to collect facts about all events occurred in recent months in the Security Zone. The Transnistrian side, which had previously been outraged by the failure to sign the reports of the Joint Military Command, this time opposed to take a clear-cut decision. The examination of both issues will continue at the next meetings.

At the meeting, the commission appointed Lieutenant-Colonel Roman Slupko as head of the Ukrainian military observers group.

Since 16 March, under the pretext of fighting the pandemic, Tiraspol set up around the localities under the jurisdiction of the constitutional authorities 37 illegal posts and other improvised fences, preventing the free movement of citizens. Representatives of the Transnistrian side in the Joint Military Command have each time blocked attempts by military observers to properly document the violations. Therefore, illegal posts are still present in the Security Zone, and public confidence in the Dniester peacekeeping mission is affected.
