Chisinau, 19 June /MOLDPRES/- Construction of a new building of Mihai Eminescu high school began in Comrat, the only one in the municipality with teaching in Romanian. The project is funded by the Romanian government and the state budget.
According to the government's communication and protocol department, Prime Minister Ion Chicu today visited the site with Irina Vlah, Governor of Gagauzia and Daniel Ioniță, Ambassador of Romania to Moldova.
"This event is a historic one, because a school is being built, an objective with such an important significance. We have begun to really think about future generations. We thank the Romanian people for their support in the construction of this school. I congratulate the authorities from Gagauzia for their efforts in educating society ", said the prime minister.
476 pupils are studying in the school, and the existing building does not have the necessary spaces to carry out quality education.
The works amount to 20.7 million lei, of which the Romanian government contribution is 15 million lei and 5.7 million lei were provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research.
Vlah noted that building the block will provide better study conditions and more opportunities for more children. The support shows effective cooperation between authorities to ensure quality education in the country.
The study block will be put into operation at the beginning of the 2021 academic year. The institution will have a capacity for more than 700 pupils who will learn in Romanian.
