Moldovan economics ministry launches study on impact of pandemic crisis

Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Economics and Infrastructure Ministry (MEI), in cooperation with the Secretariat of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister, with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and other development partners, will carry out a study on impact of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis on the economy’s sectors and will work out a matrix of measures of improving the sectors hit. The launch of activities was discussed at an online meeting today.   

„We support the initiative by the Secretariat of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister to carry out a study of impact of the crisis on the economic sectors and the elaboration of a matric of measures. We are also grateful to the donors for the providing of assistance to this end. MEI will actively participate in the coordination and carrying out of the study and will promote the measures identified in the matrix scheduled,’’ Economics and Infrastructure Minister Sergiu Railean said.    

The goals of the matrix consist in assessing the impact of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on the economic sectors, identifying of the worst hit and important sectors, as well as the measures proposed, based on the current documents of policies and the experience from other countries, consultations with sides interested, experts’ recommendations, ensuring a single platform of coordination and participation in efforts of redressing the consequences dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.   

„We urge the colleagues to actively participate, in order to quickly provide needed data and information for the study, as well as in the process of validating the results, within periodical discussions on measures identified. I am sure that, by a joint, well-coordinated effort, we can quickly change the things, in order to remove the constraints and costs for business,’’ Railean noted.     

According to the secretary of the Economic Council, Ion Lupan, „the studies earlier carried out were not enough comprehensive and detailed, which did not allow a deep understanding of the consequences – a necessary objective for efficient targeting of the measures of overcoming the crisis and making them priority.’’ 

The study will finish with the elaboration of a matrix structured on economic sectors, where the analysis of their situation according to criteria, as well as the principal measures of redressing the consequences of the pandemic economic crisis will be contained.
