Moldovan foreign affairs minister has conversation with Norwegian counterpart

Chisinau, 24 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan-Norwegian relations and the development assistance provided by Norway to Moldova, as well as the cooperation within international organizations today were discussed by Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Oleg Tulea and Foreign Affairs Minister of Norway Ine Eriksen Soreide, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.
The officials reviewed the principal goals of the Moldovan-Norwegian bilateral cooperation, highlighting the importance of strengthening the political dialogue and the commercial and economic cooperation.
The sides tackled also aspects of the collaboration within international organizations. The Moldovan diplomacy head conveyed congratulations for Norway’s recent election as member of the UN Security Council for the period 2021-2022. Oleg Tulea expressed confidence that, in this capacity, Norway would continue to significantly contribute to the promotion of global peace and security, especially in the context of the current global challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the same time, the Moldovan minister appreciated the support provided by Norway to implement the Council of Europe’s action plan for Moldova for 2017-2020, as Norway is the second biggest financer of this project.
As for the efforts of the two states’ authorities to fight against the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, Minister Oleg Tulea thanked for Norway’s valuable contribution to the UN Fund to Combat Covid-19, meant including for Moldova. The country will benefit from a project worth one million dollars, meant for purchasing protection equipment for the first-line staff, providing needed assistance for maintaining vulnerable and marginalized women during the pandemic and for consolidating the capacities of management and control of infections at the border checkpoints.
