Chisinau, 24 June /MOLDPRES/ - A number of 44 residents from 24 households of the settlements Criva, Drepcauti and Lipcani, northern Briceni district, were evacuated today, in order to prevent the danger of floods, after the level of the Prut river had increased.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), the decision for the people from the households from the Prut river’s meadow to leave their dwellings was taken by the commissions for emergency situations, in order to avoid risks.
The information provided by the IGSU territorial subdivisions shows that ten households were evacuated from the Criva settlement, 9 dwellings – from the Drepcauti village and five households – from Lipcani. Forty four people found shelter at relatives, in order not to be put in danger.
The IGSU leadership informed that fixed posts were set in risk zones, which monitor the situation and report the level of water’s increase on the observation segments. The monitoring points were placed in the Lipcani town, as well as in the villages of Drepcauti and Criva.
According to the State Hydrometeorological Service, given the quite heavy rains recorded in the upper course of the Prut river (Ukraine), the Hydrological Centre warns that, on the time interval 23-29 June, the water level will increase on the segment between the Criva village and Costesti town by 1.80-2.20 metres against the level from 23 June. In these conditions, the Prut river water might get on meadows in the Briceni and Edinet districts and some villages on the bank of this river will start being under-flooded.
