Exhibition of traditional costumes inaugurated at Moldovan parliament

Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament, on the eve of the National Day of Traditional Costume, launched an exhibition of traditional costumes today. Admirers are able to follow online a virtual tour of those 16 national costumes, offered by the National Ethnography and Natural History Museum of Moldova and exhibited at the parliament, the legislative body’s communication and public relations general department has reported.
Attending the inauguration ceremony, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii said that the national costume, along with customs and traditions, represent a part of Moldova’s national history, as well as of each family. ‘’There are a nice tradition in our family – everybody wears national costumes on the New Year night.’’
According to the speaker, the duty of each citizen is to preserve and convey this cultural wealth to the next generations.
The initiator of the exhibition, Deputy Parliament Speaker Monica Babuc said that the national costume of Moldova was one of the nicest in the world.
”There is a great pleasure for us to host these inestimable works for our cultural heritage, before the National Day of Traditional Costume. This is a holiday established by the parliament in 2015 and we mark it annually on the last Sunday of June,’’ Monica Babuc said.
For her part, one of the works’ authors, Olesea Enache Botnaru, said that costumes exhibited had been manufactured by the women’s community, Bessarabia Literary Soiree, which for many years have been recovering the tradition of authenticity and originality of the national costume, within a project on its improvement.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was inaugurated in a narrow circle, with the observance of all protection norms and visitors are invited to admire the works within a virtual tour of the exhibition on parliament’s social networks.
