Chisinau, 28 June /MOLDPRES/- Today Prime Minister Ion Chicu visited Cioburciu village, Ștefan Vodă district, to consider the progress of the flood prevention works. Local authorities have begun strengthening the 4 km long dams. The General Inspectorate for Emergency of the Ministry of Interior / IGSU / forecasts an increase in water in the region of 80 cm. The dam will help protect the village from floods.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, works to fortify the protection dams have also started in Răscăieți, Talmaza and Olănești villages, located on the banks of the Dniester River. In Răscăieți, specialists predict an increase in water level of 1.5 meters. If the dam does not withstand, 75 households and 500 hectares of agricultural land are at risk of being flooded. The inhabitants were actively mobilized and increased the height of the dams, placing over a thousand sandbags. According to calculations, the high water level in Anenii Noi could reach Răscăieți within 2-3 days. Rescuers from IGSU will stay in the area until the flood passes, and if necessary the servicemen will be attracted.
Chicu also went to Crocmaz in Ștefan Vodă, where the water increased by one meter. If the dam gives way, the houses in the village will be flooded. Specialists have predicted that the water here will rise by 1.5 meters. The dam has a reserve to prevent flooding. The situation was inspected as far as Olănești, where no flood hazards were registered.
The premier appreciated the intervention of the local public authorities aimed at preventing floods and discussed with the mayors about the needs they face, and noted the importance of repairing local roads. Although the government is facing a pandemic caused by Covid-19 this year, it has not cut spending earmarked for road repairs. "We are not giving up the road rehabilitation project. We understand that this will allow the development of the economy. If we do not repair the roads, we have no chance to stop the exodus of people ", he said.
