Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/- Moldovan government will earmark financial resources to strengthen flood protection dams.
President Igor Dodon said today after the weekly meeting with Prime Minister and Speaker that he asked Prime Minister Ion Chicu to conduct an assessment of flood protection dams and to allocate financial resources for their consolidation.
"The evaluation of the lands flooded by the rivers Prut and Dniestre, over 600 hectares each flooded, makes me say that over the past 12 years no works have been done to restore the flood protection dams. I asked for an assessment and allocation of financial resources to strengthen them,” Dodon said.
At the same time, the president noted that the risk of floods remains high in Ștefan Vodă district and in the Prut meadow, Cahul district. Upstream, the water levels of these rivers decreased, the risk of floods is extremely low.
