Moldova commomorates Stephen the Great today

Chisinau, 2 July /MOLDPRES/ - The ruling of Stephen the Great and Holy ended on 2 July 1504. He ruled 47 years. Stephen the Great had a ruling full of action, dedicated to the edification and strengthening of the Country of Moldavia. We most often remember Stephen the Great as a fighter, who led more than 40 wars and battles, defending the country’s borders and interests, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.     

Yet, Stephen the Great was not only a gifted and courageous fighter. He was also a wise country leader, who managed to mobilize the nation, to give a helping hand to the country’s development. Moldavia was a politically stable and rich country. The national unity stayed at the basis of the economic and military power of the Country of Moldavia.   

During the ruling of Stephen, the Country of Moldavia was able both to edify a strong system of military fortifications and to modernize the army and develop the written culture and architecture. We are proud of many of the jewels of Stephen the Great’s age at present too and we regard them as visiting cards of Moldova. 

Stephen the Great left us a big list of evidence that we are able to edify a country and defend it. He showed us that we can be masters in our country and we can be good neighbours, when we are respected.  

Yet, for this, we must be united and have confidence in us, not let ourselves splintered by domestic conflicts and focus on the country’s priorities.  

Stephen the Great united us and showed us how great we can be. Unfortunately, the history gave us many other rulers, who divided us and taught us to be small.  

We have many lessons to learn from Stephen the Great and time is ripe to assimilate them. Only the Great People can teach us to do great things. Great things, which would show that we are the descendants of Stephen the Great.
