Authorities say Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline to be put into operation till 1 August

Chisinau, 3 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline will be put into operation till 1 August 2020, authorities have said. The announcement was made after Economics and Infrastructure Minister Sergiu Railean had paid a working visit to the western Ungheni district. The Moldovan minister in Ungheni met the director general of Transgaz Romania, Ion Sterian, and inspected several construction sites of the Ungheni-Chisinau pipeline.   

According to the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry’s (MEI), at the meeting, the Transgaz director informed the minister about the march of the works of finishing the gas pipeline, noting that they unfolded according to the plan established.  

„Moldova’s interconnection with the natural gas system of Romania is a priority on the country’s energy security agenda. Presently, this project on diversification of the providers of natural gas in Moldova is at the final stage and the gas pipeline has reached Chisinau,’’ Sergiu Railean said.   

„Till 1 August 2020, we are ready to put into operation the Ungheni-Chisinau pipeline. At this phase, 1.5 million cubic metres of gas per day could be supplied through the pipeline and by 1 December, we will be able to provide the carriage of 2.3 million cubic metres of gas per day. After the setting of the compression and regulation station from Gheraesti, by 1 January 2021, we will be able to transport 4 million cubic metres of gas per day to Moldova,’’ the Romanian official said.    

The works on construction of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline started on 18 February 2019. The pipeline has a length of 120 km and the project’s estimated value is 76 million euros.
