Last days' rains cause damages in five Moldovan districts, destroy hectares of orchards, vineyard

Chisinau, 8 July /MOLDPRES/ - The last days’ rains caused considerable damages in 21 settlements from five districts. Over 57 km of local roads were destroyed, 59 households were flooded. Interior Minister Pavel Voicu made public the data in the beginning of a today’s cabinet meeting, at a request by Prime Minister Ion Chicu.
According to Voicu, 27 gardens, 3 wells and one shop were flooded in the wake of the calamity. Also, the hail and wind destroyed 120 hectares of vineyard and 20 hectares of maize.
Voicu noted that a man from the Troita Noua village, eastern Anenii Noi district, on 7 July had died after being hit by lightning.
Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister Ion Perju came up with a report on the damages inflicted by rains at the cabinet meeting. He said that the hail had destroyed 2,500 hectares in the Stefan Voda and Causeni district. On some fields, the harvest was affected at a level of 90 per cent. Perju specified that the hit grounds were not protected by an anti-hail system.
PM Ion Chicu described the situation in agriculture as dramatic and asked to supplement the reserve fund and to rectify the state budget, in order to earmark money for agriculture.
